Why I Love EPCOT’s International Festival of the Arts
As a travel agent who specializes in Disney, I’m often asked when the best time is to visit Walt Disney World. My easy answer is…always! However, if you want to get more specific, there are a few times of year that Disney World is extra special, and one of them is during EPCOT’s International Festival of the Arts (FOA). This annual festival celebrating Disney artists and more from around the world is a great reason to plan a trip to Disney World – let me tell you why!
Weather and Crowds
While it’s true that there isn’t really a “slow” time at Disney World anymore, there are still “less busy” times, and FOA, which takes place in late January through early February each year, tends to be one of them. The holiday crowds have subsided and the weather is often lovely – how does 70s and sunny sound?
Unique Souvenirs
Whenever I return from a Walt Disney World vacation, my bags are always a bit heavier than when I arrived – and with so many fun shirts, pins, bags and even art, how could they not be? Each festival at Walt Disney World features its own special merchandise and FOA is no different. For example, did you hear about the Figment popcorn bucket some visitors waited 7 hours in line for this year? I definitely don’t recommend that, but be sure to peruse the various merchandise shops around EPCOT featuring unique souvenirs – everything from FOA spirit jerseys to Magic Bands.
A Feast for the Eyes (and Tummy)
Just like other festivals at EPCOT, FOA features food and drinks created just for the festival. These pop-up food kiosks are located around World Showcase and offer unique and often brightly coloured food, drink and snack options. The most Instagram-worthy (and tasty) is the rainbow colour-blocked Almond Frangipane Cake with raspberry jam layers and Belgian chocolate on top. Yum!
Art in Motion
Often when we think of art, it’s as a static thing. While there are plenty of gorgeous art pieces around EPCOT during the festival, new art is created during the festival, as well, and you can watch it come to life – and even help! I love checking out the gorgeous and detailed chalk art around the park featuring many of our favourite characters. Another fun activity is one of the largest paint by numbers you’ll ever see! Keep your eyes open for the Expression Section mural, where you can join other guests in helping to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art.
