When we are in the process of booking your next Walt Disney World Resort vacation, one of the first considerations will be whether to stay at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, or one off-property, meaning not an “official” Disney hotel. While there may be benefits to both, the pluses of staying on property are great. Here, I’ll share some of my favourite perks of staying on property for your next Disney vacation.
#1: Immersive Magic!
The main reason I love staying on property when I visit the Walt Disney World Resort (and encourage my clients to do so), is that each resort has its own unique styling and truly immerses you in the magic. Whether you’d love to experience the South Pacific style of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort & Bungalows, the upscale sophistication of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, or sleep next to a savannah teeming with giraffes and other African animals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, each Walt Disney World resort truly makes you feel a part of the magic, even when you leave the parks for the day.

#2: Easy (and free!) Transportation
The second plus of staying on property is the worry-free (and cost-free) options for getting around the resort. Whether you are headed to or from the parks, Walt Disney World Resort offers a range of transportation options to make the trip simple, from the classic Walt Disney World Monorail, to the new Disney Skyliner, to busses and even boats, the resort has got you covered!

Prefer to travel in style, with a bit more privacy? The resort also offers “Minnie Vans” via its partnership with Lyft, which can get you and your party anywhere you’d like to go on property. (This offering is fee-based and can be booked through the Lyft app.)
#3: Bonus Perks
There are so many additional perks to staying on property for your next Walt Disney World Resort Vacation that I could go on all day (really!), so I’ll include my last few favourites below, none of them less important than the last!
Advanced Dining Reservations: While all guests can currently book dining reservations 30 days before their visit, guests staying on property can do so 60 days in advance – a necessity if you want those highly coveted reservations, like Be Our Guest Restaurant.
Advanced FastPass+ Reservations: While FastPasses are currently not available, when they return, you can enjoy the same benefit of making those reservations 60 days out (vs just 30 days for guests not staying on property). Want to ride Avatar Flight of Passage? A FastPass+ reservation makes it so much easier!
Extra Magic Hours: Though Extra Magic Hours are currently paused due to the pandemic, when they return, they allow you access to the parks 30 minutes before other guests. You can use this time to head to your favourite attraction and sometimes, get to experience it more than once before the parks officially open!
